George A. Parker lived at 'The Crescent',
Mitchell Street, Towamba with his wife, Hebe and family. The house burnt down in the 1950s. |
Taken about 1935 at The Crescent Towamba, pictured is Tom Parker with his little sister, Gwen. I love her dolly! Tom was "spotted" by some Army chaps after a good game of cricket in Towamba. Following their encouragement and with Una's help, Tom enlisted in the Permanent Army in 1935. This was his chance to get away from rabbit trapping and wattle barking trees. Country folk were crooked at the Army for taking their best sportsmen!! |
